Saturday 17th October 2026
Chris Broome and Alan David will be giving an illustrated talk in the Village Hall at 7.30pm on Saturday 17 October, about the area of Nepal that was devastated by the catastrophic flood that occurred on the 26 August. Chris and Alan travelled along the valley of the Trishuli River, where the flood occurred, in October 2014 when we were on our way to trek in the nearby Langtang region. This region was also severely affected by the major earthquake that occured in April 2015, just 6 months after we were there.
Our Nepalese friend Bijay, who we first met when we were in Nepal in 2014, lost several family members in the flood, when they were on a pilgrimage to Mount Kailash in Tibet. Another family member had a lucky escape from a bus and survived the flood. We are hoping that Bijay will produce a short video about his family members and what happened to them, that we can show as part of our talk.
Chris will also talk about and give a demonstration of the water filters that he and Peter Fox, as volunteers, help assemble at Aquabox in Wirksworth. Over 1500 of these filters have already been sent to the flood disaster area in Nepal and another 1000 are on their way.
The main purpose of the talk is to raise some money to help the relatives of Bijay who lost a husband/father in the flood and are now struggling to support their families financially. There will be a £5.00 charge on the door for entry and any donations that people would like to give will be gratefully received. All of the money raised will be sent directly to the affected families through our trusted friend Bijay.
There will be a licensed bar at the event.
We hope to see you there.
